REDL: SELF-DISPENSING SYSTEMS VERY POPULAR

The company Redl from Hollabrunn specialises in draft systems. The company’s products can be found not only in restaurants and hotels, but also on cruise ships, for example. Due to the pandemic, self-dispensing solutions are currently very popular.

When the Redl company was founded in 1966, it was still purely an electrical company. In the third generation, Managing Director Hermann Redl then broadened the company and focused on dispensing systems, taps and cash register systems. “In the area of catering systems, we are represented in restaurants and cafés in eastern Austria. This then extends to ski huts and ski bars in western Austria. Wherever automatic billing is required, we are there,” explains the Managing Director.

Today, 40 percent of products are exported. After Austria, the most important markets are Germany, the USA, Switzerland and France. Because customers often have very different requirements, many products are specially designed. “In the area of special appliance construction, for example, we also supply cruise ships, the US military base in Okinawa and hotels in Las Vegas,” says Redl.

SELF-DISPENSING SYSTEMS IN HIGH DEMAND IN THE USA

All products manufactured by the company are produced in Hollabrunn. Various electronic and housing parts, taps and hoses are used for this purpose. These are then assembled according to the requirements of the respective customer.

Redl sees great potential in self-dispensing and self-service systems. Together with a partner company, the company is already the market leader in the USA. “The main reason is hygiene, i.e. the fact that there is less contact. At the same time, there is a worldwide shortage of staff. The big advantage of a self-dispensing system is that guests can get their own drink at any time. This is becoming more and more interesting in many areas, whether it’s stadiums, festivals or the pubs around the corner,” says Redl.

NEW CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN PLANNING

However, the dispensing systems are not only used for beer and soft drinks; the company also uses water dispensing systems and recently developed a milk frothing device that allows a barista to quickly and easily portion the right amount of milk. “We have so-called cream containers where the milk is poured. This is usually located under the counter in a cold room. The tubing from the appliance goes directly into the cold room,” explains workshop manager Dominic Krötz: “So you don’t have to worry about anything, the milk is always on tap.”

Redl currently employs 85 people. The company has big plans to further increase its production capacity. Specifically, a new company headquarters is to be built in the north of Hollabrunn. Redl plans to invest a total of 6.5 million, with the new headquarters due to be completed in 2023.
